That's funny about Liz Denimdiva

Unthawed and dethawed are not words.

Irregardless is not a word.

I've heard it, but don't think I've ever used it. I can't think of a proper context for it?

everyone says it

but regardless is just that, so how does irregardless make it more regardless?

just seems to be one of those funny things that even the most schooled individual says

Yeah, she has quite an offbeat sense of humor. She really catches people off guard.

Her English and Spanish teachers this year told me that they are sad that she will be homeschooled next year.

I've learned some things...like irrelevant should be either relevant or not relevant.

Umm, there's nothing wrong with saying irrelevant. Not here anyway.

irrelevant is probably fine and you can probably find it in the dictionary - I really dunno.

I just remember an old friend who was an English teacher said that it is better to say "not relevant" than "irrelevant." Her theory was in the pronunciation and/or diction of the word and people being clear on what they were saying.

And, I could use all the help I can get

Sure they are! They're synonomns of "frozen" and "frozed."

I wonder if she was thinking along the lines of the word inflammable (sp?) and people thought that meant the item was fireproof?

LOL ~ just because you've heard of it doesn't mean that it's a proper word!

There are a lot of words and phrases that aren't really correct but we all use them.

Such is life

really?
I thought they meant the same thing?
Or are they just used very specifically for particular items?

I don't think there is a word that would convince me anything is fireproof.

I have a fear of fire...hmmm...wonder why

Inflammable means that something (either physical or a situation) is likely to go up in flames.

Pretty much.

From Dictionary.com

flam·ma·ble:

–adjective easily set on fire; combustible; inflammable.

in·flam·ma·ble:
–adjective 1. capable of being set on fire; combustible; flammable.
2. easily aroused or excited, as to passion or anger; irascible: an inflammable disposition.
–noun 3. something inflammable.

Usage Note: Historically, flammable and inflammable mean the same thing. However, the presence of the prefix in- has misled many people into assuming that inflammable means "not flammable" or "noncombustible." The prefix -in in inflammable is not, however, the Latin negative prefix -in, which is related to the English -un and appears in such words as indecent and inglorious. Rather, this -in is an intensive prefix derived from the Latin preposition in. This prefix also appears in the word enflame. But many people are not aware of this derivation, and for clarity's sake it is advisable to use only flammable to give warnings.

There now, that's clear isn't it?

Clear as mud, but clear

I remember when my 22 yo ds was a newborn. My former mother-in-law got him a bunch of clothes that said "inflammable" on the tag. She was so proud of herself because she thought she had purchased clothing for her grandson that wouldn't catch fire.

dude is said with a decidedly deeper voice and dood is more of a surprised, higher-pitched voice.

I have no idea what I'm talking about anymore

OK you Brits and others, why is it that you seem to know so much more about our celebs than we do about yours?

During WWII there was a saying about American servicemen ~ they were 'over paid, over sexed and over here'.

I rather suspect the same can be said for many of your celebrities.

I have heard that saying before. I agree with it for celebs, but not the military.
