Father, Thank you for all that you have been doing for Rick. Please help so that his liver will get better without meds. Of course, we desire a complete healing. Help the researchers and producers to come up with better liver meds that will have milder side-effects. We continue to pray for Rick in Jesus Christ's name that you will do what will be best for him. Amen.

I pray that my liver w/ out meds will get better & that there will be no need for any liver transplant for a great many years. I also pray that they will come up w/ better meds for all suffering from liver illness as there are only a couple of treatments & side-effects can be very harsh for some. Father please answer these prayers for brooklynsblessed. I understand some of what he is going through, Lord through an experience with a loved one. I thank you for his great faith in you and pray that funds will not run out. You know Lord I too have been praying for a better treatment as my loved one can't tolerate the present one. Father thank your for Brooklynsblessed and his testimony. I pray you will is for a cure for him. In Jesus precious name I pray.

Am off today for a 2:30 (routine) appt. w/ my Hematologist @ Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan. We have been drawing blood at the start every week then lately to bi-weekly as the ferritin dropped/the iron function that they're following - Praise God- it dropped from over 5000 to last check a little over 100/has to be -50 to stop. Labs were taken again Mon. & we'll look @ those today & decide if I'll stop the blood draws & only have to go every few months for maintenance....appreciate the prayers...& hope to close out several issues before I move to Pensacola.... Rick/Ps. 118:17 quote:
Hemochromatosis: What is hemochromatosis? Hemochromatosis is an inherited disorder that causes the body to absorb and store too much iron, and is also the most common form of iron overload disease. The extra iron begins to build up in organs, causing damage and without treatment can lead to organ failure. Iron is an important nutrient found in many foods that humans consume on a daily basis, such as red meat and iron-fortified breads and cereals. Inside the body, iron becomes part of hemoglobin, a molecule in the blood that transports oxygen from the lungs to body tissues. Healthy persons typically absorb about ten percent of the iron they consume. Persons with hemochromatosis absorb more than their body needs to function properly and the body has no real way of getting rid of excess amounts of iron. This excess iron is stored in body tissue, particularly within the liver, heart and pancreas. What are the symptoms of hemochromatosis? Common symptoms of hemochromatosis include: 1. joint pain 2. fatigue and lack of energy 3. abdominal pain 4. loss of sex drive 5. heart problems If the disease is not detected early and treated, serious problems may occur. Some of these include: 1. arthritis 2. liver disease 3. damage to the pancreas (possibly causing diabetes) 4. heart abnormalities 5. damage tot the adrenal gland 6. impotence 7. early menopause 8. thyroid deficiency 9. abnormal pigmentation of the skin Symptoms tend to occur in men who are between the ages of 30 and 50, and in women who are over the age of 50. Many people have no symptoms of hemochromatosis when they are diagnosed. How is hemochromatosis treated? Treatment of hemochromatosis is simple, inexpensive, and safe. A physician will first want to remove excess amounts of iron from the body. This process is known as a phlebotomy and involves drawing blood, using the same process that is used at a blood bank. A needle is inserted into the patients arm and approximately one pint of blood is removed. This process is repeated once or twice a week for several months to a year, depending on the patient’s reaction to the procedures. The goal of the phlebotomies is to remove a certain amount of the iron within the blood and to maintain those levels. Once iron levels return to normal, the patient may need to give a pint of blood every two to four months for life. http://intmed.muhealth.org/gast/patient_resource/commondisorders/Hemochromatosis.html

Thanks to all that have prayed for the situation w/ the excess iron.....PER MY HEMATOLOGIST I NO LONGER HAVE TO DO A BI-WEEKLY HOSPITAL BLOOD DRAW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I now just have to have labs for iron, ferritin, etc. every few months & if the ferritin goes up I'll have to do maybe "a" blood draw...& then return to just monitoring. This frees up my mind in one more area re: my moving to Pensacola before the holidays...my sister-in-law, now retired was a lab supervisor @ Sacred Heart an 8 min. travel from my brother's house, & a couple minutes more from where I might move.... & that's where I'll get my primary care for hiv & my liver. I'll be talking to someone down there in the next couple days. And, if I ever need a liver transplant I'd likely get it at Tulane University Hospital in New Orleans where I have more relatives in the medical field (here in NYC I have no family). Re: a liver transplant---- my MELD is low/Thank God , too low to even get on the list...& my liver specialist will do a new MELD in about a month..... Will keep ya posted; GOD IS GOOD! Rick/ Ps. 118:17
