I have been so blessed to never have been on HRT. I really don't know too much about it.

AF appears to be packing her bags and leaving after a nine day visit. I hope she doesn't come back too soon. She pretty much has worn out her welcome here. I only have enough stuff for her for about two more days and I do not feel like shopping! So, she's gonna have to go!

Just please don't send her my way! She's not welcome here!

Sometimes I wish that men had to deal with Aunt Flo. Maybe they'll be more empathetic about us women when we're in one of those moods.

Yikes! Praying for you, ((((((Padds))))))!

Got my blood work results back. I am not in menapause. Dr. said it was kinda hard to say if I am in perimenapause because evidently a woman's cycle consists of four stages and I was in between two stages. I do have an appointment to have a papsmear done. Something is definately going on. Aunt Flo was a week late for her visit and then she had the nerve to stay and linger on for nine days! My mother had cervical cancer at the age of 41 so naturally this is becoming a concern for me. Please keep me in your prayers everyone. Thanks, melissa (IwillseekHim)

To Memaw and Pink Carnations I hope and pray that AF is less troublesome for you both.

To IwillSeekHim, that your concerns will be unfounded.

Thankyou all for your help and prayers I will be seeing my doc later this afternoon. I have my list which seems to grow daily!

After sorting out my medication problems for pain relief I asked the doc about the power surges and he wants me to try Homoeopathy. So I have been given something called Sepia, its too early to tell yet as I only took one last night and as I have to take them with a gap of 15 minutes each side without a drink I shall do that shortly. I haven't had my quota of cups of tea yet to wake me up!

No major power surges as yet but the feeling I am having one is there but it doesn't amount to much, all sounds promising I hope.

Thankyou! I am not sure the doc understood himself as there were long pauses when he was trying to explain it. Apparently it is something that actually causes hot flushes and so it is watered down in the hope that when it clicks in and tries to give a hot flush the bodies mechanism then counter-acts it.

I am still having them, one after the other but they don't seem as bad, but then it is a degree or two cooler here now, he also mentioned Oil of Evening Primrose, so I may just give that a try as well. Failing all this I could just sit in a fridge.

I hope it works for you. It gets lonely sitting in the fridge.

Does anyone in the perimenopause phase have trouble sleeping one week a month? I'm 47, and I can count on having insomnia several nights during the month -- usually right before my period -- where I can't relax. My back muscles are so tense and I'm so uptight that I don't go to sleep. I've tried milder remedies, but sometimes nothing works. Last night I took a dose of a Shaklee blend that's supposed to make you relax (contains Valerian, etc.), plus two melatonin tablets. After tossing and turning until 3 a.m., I finally got up and started folding laundry. I took Premsyn a little after that and finally laid back down and went to sleep at 4:15 a.m. Had to be at work at 8:30 this morning.

If anyone else suffers from this and has found a fairly reliable cure, I'd love to hear about it!

Hot tea, decaf (I really like the tension tamer stuff), soft instrumental music (I generally like country & rock, but the soft music does work) about two hours before bedtime, an hour or so of silence - especially no TV or computer) just before bed. Those seem to help, but don't always work for me.

I have some trouble sleeping then too. I find reading in bed helps me relax, and not something too interesting or suspenseful either, lol .

Thanks, PinkCarnations and Flowerz!

I used Tension Tamer tea years ago, but I'd forgotten about it ... I'll have to get some again. I think I remember it working wonders.

I'll have to work on the no computer/TV before bed. (I'm getting ready to go to bed right now.)

Thanks, gals!

I have trouble staying asleep, I can fall right out but then a couple of hours later I'm wide awake and roaming the house.

Same here. Sometime between 5 and 6 am I usually give up and start the coffee. That wouldn't be a bad time to get up if I didn't work evenings.

I wake up every few hours too. Dr put me on some med that is suppose to help but it doesn't.

It doesn't matter if I go to bed at 8PM or midnight....I'm up roaming the house.
Then around 10AM I am so bone tired I can barely stay awake.
I usually perk up around noon, then come 2PM I have a hard time staying awake again.

I really miss the good old days of a solid night sleep and waking refreshed.

My doctor asked me to try taking benadryl when I go to bed to help me stay asleep. It works okay, but I'm very groggy in the morning so there's a trade-off.

I don't sleep very well before a period, but once that period starts - if I can get the cramps under control - I could sleep for 24 hours straight. That lasts about 3 days and then it's back to restless nights and napping all night long.

Yeah, I'm kind of like that too - one really good nights sleep & then a few nights not so good, & then back again. I've also discovered that trying to change my sleep time is just not working at this age. I need to report in an hour earlier than usual on Mondays & Tuesdays. Going to bed an hour early has yet to work. I still can't go to sleep even though my body is tired enough from working a longer day.

If anyone ever figures out the right amount of benadryl to take, I think we all may be taking shots so we can fall asleep! k
