Diane,

Do you know of anyone who refers to the red stinging insects as "waspers"? (accent on the first syllable). I have never heard anyone outside of North Georgia pronounce it that way and most of them were my relatives.

Getting "antsy" here in the UK means being fidgety and unsettled (probably comes from the phrase "having ants in your pants" which people used to say to children who couldn't sit still, lol)

Squash is a fruit-based liquid concentrate, sold in bottles, which you dilute with water to make a soft drink. It contains colour and flavouring (might be natural or synthetic) and preservative(s) plus either sugar or artificial sweeteners.

The amount of actual juice content varies from product to product, the dearer ones containing the most actual juice.

I don't drink a lot of squash, if I do, it's the 'high juice' ones ~ mainly because they don't generally contain any artificial junk but I think they taste better...

I did buy a devine cordial the other day ~ cost nearly £4 for 750ml but it's worth it... can't remember the flavour off-hand.

Larry, I'm from AL and have heard waspers used by older country folk. It's not something you hear everyday or from younger, city folk (which is where I live.) Dh and I use it sometimes as a joke b/c it sounds so funny to us.

We use "antsy" here, too, although it has never struck me that it probably comes from "ants in your pants." I love the history of words.

antsy is a verb...we use that in the same way.

antsies is a noun - for those annoying black ants that form a line into your house and get into everthing! Ugh, they were a major pest when we lived in the rural part of FL. It was probably a regional thing.

Mom used to sing a little ditty to us when were "antsy".

You've got ants in your pants and they make you dance.

Don't be antsy - verb? as in move around in action

If you grew up in my house, your grammar would be corrected as needed.

My dad is a first generation American. His father grew up in a German household that made great efforts to speak the English language correctly. That trait was passed on to Grandpa's children and most of his grandchildren.

I think we were the only kids in SC who weren't allowed to say "ain't" or use double negatives.

When Liz was enrolled in PS, after being hs'd from K-5th grade her English teacher commented positively on her vocabulary and language skills. However, the teacher slammed hsing when she did it.
She told the teacher "My mama ain't got no good learnin' so she just throwed me in the danged ole barn 'cepting in the freezin' weather she would let me get to the basement, so I never had nothin' to do but learnt how read and write."
Her teacher got the hint and they got along very well.

Umm, , in the second one the "be" is the verb. The "antsy" is still the adjective.
Just like in "don't be miserable" - where the 'miserable' isn't the verb, the "be" is.

Well, with mom's family being from the swamps of Florida and Dad's family a bunch of scrapping Irishmen - I'm thrilled I can talk at all.

My grammar is terrible, but I do try to correct it as much as I can.

I've learned some things...like irrelevant should be either relevant or not relevant.

Irregardless is not a word.

stuff like that.
