Hi Jen, would you believe that I had so many subscriptions that I am only reading your thread just now? Its been nearly a month since you posted this. As of this posting, I still have 34 "old" threads to catch up on.

Mike, I'd believe it! I am still catching up on some threads I haven't read since September, when I was on vacation for a week! LOL

DH is doing really, really well. Still a very patient patient; he grumbles very occasionally that he just wants to be better already, but other than that is quite cheerful. The nurses think are pleased with his progress and attribute it to his not moving around much (he's able to work from home). In a couple of weeks he may be able to change his own bandages, which is when they figure his wound will be closer to the skin (ie not a deep wound but more like a skinned-knee wound).

He's well enough that we're thinking of going away for the weekend at the end of November; we're hoping he will be able to handle a longer car ride by that point.

Hi Jen, please forgive me for being out of the loop, but did your husband have surgery? I must have read this, but out of mind, out of site!

When I logged in yesterday, I had count them 134 unread subs! As of this posting, I am now down to just 4 left. Yes, I did a real lot of reading since yesterday!

That many subs would cause me to have a panic attack! Once, I had that many unreads subs. As I went through it, I unsubbed to a lot of threads. I just couldn't keep up.

How was your weekend, Jen?

Yeah Mike, he had back surgery about a month ago; nothing scary like his spine, just for a skin infection on his back. It's slow to heal because they couldn't stitch it up, otherwise, the infection was likely to start up again.

Had a great weekend. Starting to get our pictures hung up! Woohoo! And taking a trip to NY state for fun next weekend; we're a regular couple of party animals these days.

Nope, not on FB. Mostly because I spend enough time online with CW and it'll only increase if I have another place to check!

DH's back is almost healed. He's now able to change his own bandage daily. Which means he can wash his hair every day! It looks so much better I thought he'd had a haircut.

Well, DH and I had a good weekend away (Syracuse and Rochester, with a stop at an outlet mall in the middle). I'm always astonished at how much cheaper stuff is in the US--even at regular price, most items are 30-50% less than ours in terms of dollar value. Since the Canadian dollar is nearly even with the US dollar at the moment, the differences are a bit silly to me. Although next time we definitely won't go Thanksgiving weekend; we didn't plan it that way, it just happened to fall on the weekend we picked.

We've been getting a lot of stuff done at home; almost all the pictures are hung up, most of DH's to do piles are sorted (not that he's messier--he's just been handling more action items than me at home lately), and we're getting better at cleaning stuff up whenever we see dirt. We're having people over for Bible study tonight, and we only had to spend about an hour cleaning--that's pretty good for us. At this rate, the spare room will be empty by the time my in-laws arrive at Christmas; lately we've been using it to store stuff because nothing's in the basement yet.

I don't know about you guys, but I feel best when I'm getting tangible things done. I can look on the pictures on the wall and say "Ahhhh... that's done!" It's a great feeling.

Really? Used to be Canadian dollars were lower than ours, so that's how I'd justify spending money in Canada. (Of course' there's those taxes too!)

Apparently, even the Australian dollar is comparable to the US dollar now too.

The Canadian dollar is still less than the US Dollar, but not by much. Right now it's around 95 US cents to 1 Canadian dollar.

I just keep hearing on the news that our dollar is worth about as much as the US dollar.

Our dollar has been performing well in the last couple of years due mostly to the strength of the natural resource sector (ie Alberta oil sands); it has gone above the US dollar by a tiny bit a couple of times, but it hasn't dipped very far below it lately. It's not doing quite so amazingly against the Euro but it's still doing not too badly. Our dollar was about $0.60 on the US dollar not so long ago, and that's what our retail prices seem to still be based on.

Stephen Colbert did a funny segment last year suggesting that the US govt sue us for copyright infringement on the word "dollar"; he also requested payment in Cnd $.

I guess it's time to share some news that I am starting to "go public" with... I'm pregnant!

I'm 20 weeks along (4 1/2 mos), due in late April/early May, and feeling sorta excited but sorta nervous after the first pg loss. However, since we made it past the milestone that failed us the last time (ie we'd found out the first baby died at the 20-week ultrasound) we're feeling a lot better about the whole thing.

And physically, I'm doing well. Baby kicks a lot, even during the day, and even sometimes when I'm active (it feels really weird when I'm singing). I've been told to prepare for sleepless nights in a few weeks, when the kicking changes from "cute" to "so vigorous I can't sleep."

LOL... that was sorta the point... I didn't want people fussing over me when I was nervous, and happy for me when I was scared.

We do have a more definite due date than late April/early May, but I got some very wise advise from a friend--don't tell many people the specific dates or you'll get phone calls every day when you're overdue. LOL

Gender: we aren't finding out. Our first baby was a girl, and I find myself calling this one a "she" without any real reason to think it actually is a girl. So if we were to find out it was a girl, and it turned out to be a boy... I don't think I'd be too happy with that. And friends of ours did have that happen to them... so for now, baby is just baby, and that's fine with me. From what I've heard, knowing the gender doesn't make it any easier to decide on names anyhow!

If you have other questions, feel free to bombard away.
