my picture dosent appear on my posts - 5/12/2009 7:57:26 AM

Hopefully someone can help me cause I really couldnt find the answer in the FAQ's section.
I've been trying to upload a picture so that it'll appear under my user name when I make a post here on CCM Magazine Forum.
i've got the "click to choose avatar" line chosen in the "my avatar" section on "my profile" page...
i've got the "upload my picture" line chosen in the "set up profile photo" section on "my profile" page.... (theres a lil pic box after this line too)
when I check "my profile" page,the photo I uploaded is there (so I kno the pic uploaded from my computer) but when I start a thread or make a post on the forum,the photo I uploaded does not appear on my threads but the photo is on my profile.
please help me so the photo thats on my profile also appears on my threads.......THANXXXXXXXXXXXX

I think you haveto have a minimum of 50 posts before you can upload an avatar.
When you do reach the minimum, be sure to click "APPLY" at the bottom of the page after uploading and, then, click "Okay" at the bottom of the same page.

I've had the same problem! I have felt really dumb-- I've tried uploading my own pic, a FB flair and even an avatar off the choices from CW... I've hit "apply" and it still doesn't show. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

You do have to have 50 posts.

Also, avatars must be no larger than 145 pixels X 145 pixels and 10KB. Otherwise you'll get an error message.
There have been problems in the past on this site with this feature. sometimes it was the browser that caused the problem. There aer days when you can only change the picture using MS Explorer. Other times any browser will work. So if you're not using IE, try it. Ya never know, it might work.

I use Firefox and I can have an avatar. Having FF is not a problem. Initially, my problem was the number of pixels in the avatar and/or the size. One of the other posters fixed it for me and made some adjustments. Then they emailed the finished product back. It loaded OK after that.
It shouldn't take too long to get your 50 posts either.

OK. FF has some glitches. I haven't tried to download an avatar for awhile. I didn't know.

Those aren't the only glitches on this site. How about trying to submit a post too quickly since the last? After that, the buttons on the window don't work right.
There are issues with some of the "standard" web features on this site. IMHO of course.

It seems that in my case, the browser was the problem for me. I am on a different computer, using Internet Explorer and I was able to add the avatar. Interesting...

Sophie, The only other thing I can think of is the file format. Files have to be .jpg or .gif

It gives me a message about server error in application every time, except when I intentionally have tried to upload too large a file, then it said file too large of course!
Would I be able to send such a link in a pm or would I need to email?

I tried unsuccessfully 2-3 times to load each of the 3 avatars that sophie11 sent me. Then on the next try, I was able to load each of them in succession and get back to my original avatar.
I did this on Win XP with Firefox 3.0.9
Sophie11, there appears to be nothing wrong with your avatar files. This site has known issues on avatar uploads and this is yet again one of those issues.
Try what I did, and do it at least 4-5 times before giving up. Let me know the result if you do this.

One thing I did notice. I tried this test first from my work machine. It did not work at all. The result each and every time was "File is too large!". Note that this was even when I downloaded my existing avatar and try to upload it again.
Note also that I use Linux for my work machine.
Note also that avatar loading is apparently completely broken for Firefox 3.0.10 on Linux as far as I can tell.

Tried at least 10 times per pic, it's still not working.
Strange though most of the time recently when I have again attempted to upload a pic, like I said before it would give me an application error msg. Today all I see is "file is too large", no error msg.
Using Windows XP IE8. When I first started using this forum I was using IE7 and still had the same problem.
