Have you ever found your self praying in a manner, different from how you started, as though you were not the instigator?

I have found myself standing & or just looking to God and praising Him.

First time it happened to me I stopped it when I could because I wasn't sure what was happening .

Ephesians 6:18
18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

Jude
...dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.

Some people say to 'pray in the Spirit' means to pray in tongues. I'm sure that's true, but for us folks who don't have that gift we pray in the Spirit in our native language. I believe praying in the Spirit means not only praying according to the will of God (as our tamer denominations would teach) but also praying as the Spirit gives utterance, whether that be in a worldly or a heavenly language.

When you pray this way you can have the confidence that you are indeed praying according to the perfect will of God. God has this thing about finding someone to come into agreement with. When we pray in the Spirit we are in agreement with him about whatever it is he inspires us to say. And, as you noted, you have the full freedom to do, or not do that.

This is an element of prophesying that most people don't know about. Prophesying is simply speaking what God is speaking or wants said. That isn't limited to foretelling the future or discerning the knowledge of God about a matter. Sometimes it's just telling how great he is as we are inspired to do that by the Spirit. The prophets did this often--they spoke about the awesomeness of God in understandable language as the Spirit moved them along.

Yup....I've even woken myself up praying. The spirit within us doesn't sleep and is always talking to and praising God.

You may have the gift of intercession. There are lots of websites about it and of course you will find out about it in the bible.

I happen to agree with ChainSaw. Sometimes when you are in prayer you move from one state to another. It is like going from one part of the temple to the next.

That is kind of what happened. I had been praying and apparently fell asleep while. (Seemed like I came out of sleep anyhow) and started or continued.....
